Frequently Asked Questions

Is Billy and George available for production?

Yes.  If interested in producing Billy and George at your theatre, please contact us at kwj2000@icloud.com.

Has Billy and George been produced?

Yes. Billy and George originally had a workshop and stage reading at the Ensemble Theatre Cincinnati.   That was followed by a full production at the Avant Bard Theatre in Arlington, VA in early 2023.

Was Billy Lee a real person?

Yes.  William Lee was a real person, but like so many enslaved people, his story has been all but forgotten.  There are some historical records and documents (including George Washington's Last Will and Testament) that mention Billy Lee.  Please refer to our page- THE HISTORY.

Are the words spoken in the play actual words spoken by Lee and Washington?

The play is historical fiction based on the best evidence that we can recover.  Billy Lee was with Washington during this time period, and it is factual that Billy Lee was one of, if not his closest confidante during the Revolutionary War.  Much of the dialogue is based on actual writings, speeches and recorded observations of Washington.  It is our thought that if one person is with another person, every day, all day, for over 20 years, then those two people begin to share thoughts and ideas and, yes, even words.

Is the play published?

Not yet.  Several dramatic play publishing firms have reached out for publication, however we feel that it would serve the work better to have more productions before being placed in a large catalog of plays.
